JSC Question Pattern and Number

Part A-Seen Part [Total 20 Marks]

 Question No. 1: Choose The Correct Answer
Part A one Seen Passage will be given. In light of this, there will be seven (7) questions in MCQ format in 1 no question. Every question has to be answered. Numbers will be assigned for seven (7) questions seven- 7.

  • Example: Choose the correct answer to each question from the given options and write the corresponding number of the answer in your answer script.

Question No. 2: Answer The Following Question
There will be four (4) short questions in two (2) no questions. You have to read the given passage and answer the questions. The number for each question will be 2 and the number for the correct answer of four (4) questions will be fixed- 8.

  • Example: Answer the following questions from your reading of the above lesson.

Question No. 3: Fill in The Gaps
3 no question will have a passage with 5 spaces from another seen passage. The number for the correct answer to this question will be determined as- 5.

  • Example: Read the text below and fill in the blanks with the appropriate words so that it makes sense.

Part-B : Unseen Part [Total 25 Marks]

 Question No. 4: Information Transfer
The information of the passage given in the test will be presented in a table format. There will be five data gaps in the table. In that case, the data has to be selected for each gap in the light of the corresponding gaps. The given gaps can be represented as information in any number of tables. However, the sample question is more likely to be presented with as much information as possible, taking the sample as the norm.

  • Example: Complete the table. Enter three more words and numbers for each answer.

Question No. 5: True/ False
Five statements will be given in the light of the second passage in the test. Statements need to be determined true/ false. The sentences will usually be a declarative statement. That is, simple assertive sentences will prevail. Only sentences expressing important single ideas will be used as true/ false. In this case, it is possible to determine the true/ false sentences will be given in short sentences. In the test answer the sentence has to be written true. And, if it is false, you have to write false and the true sentence with a full stop.

  • Example: Read and write the passage again, whether the statements are true or false. Give the correct answer, if the statement is false.

Question No. 6: Cloze Test With Clues
The test will have a cloze passage with a list of ten blanks and ten suitable words to be used in the blanks and an additional 2/1 words. For blank spaces in the answer sheet, only the appropriate words should be answered in chronological order (full passage should not be written). Note that gap filling activity is a type of cloze test. Otherwise, a gap filling activity is a grammar test item where the qualifications for a specific grammatical item are verified.

  • Example: Read the text below and fill in the blanks using the clues provided in the boxes. There are more words than needed. A word can be used once.

Question No. 7: Cloze Test Without Clues
The test will have a cloze passage with five spaces. For blank spaces in the answer sheet, only the appropriate words should be answered in chronological order (not the entire passage). Note that gap filling activity is a type of cloze test. Otherwise, a gap filling activity is a grammar test item where the qualifications for a specific grammatical item are verified.

  • Example: Read the text below and fill in the blanks using suitable words to make it a meaningful text.

Question No. 8: Matching Senyences
No separate passage will be given for matching in the test but five sentences of a particular subject will be presented divided into 'A and B' parts. In that case, part of five sentences will be given specially in part 'A and B'. In the answer sheet, you have to answer by writing appropriate sentences meaningful according to the serial of 'A and B' part.

  • Example: Match the part of the sentences in column A and A to form five complete sentences.

Part-C : Grammar [Total 25 Marks]

 Question No. 9: Use of Suffixes Prefixed
 In a test passage, the root of ten words will be given. Words need to be transformed according to the needs of the sentence. For example, if the form of a noun is given, it may have to be converted into Verb, Adjective or Adverb according to the grammar structure of the sentence. Use the suffix prefix required for conversion.

  • Example: Read the text below and fill in the blanks with the root words in the brackets adding suitable suffix, prefix or both.

Question No. 10: Gap Filling Activities (use of articles)
The test will have a passage with ten gaps. In case of gaps, the article (a, an and the) should be inserted if required, and if not required, zero article given (x) should be given. No need to write passage. 

  • Example: Fill in the blanks in the following text with appropriate articles (a, an and the). Put a cross (x) where not article is used.

Question No. 11: Changing Sentences
The five sentences in the test will be asked to change their form as instructed. In this case, the five sentences of a descriptive passage will be given in the form of (a), (b), (c), (d) and (e). There will be a total of three types of change questions-
  • Affirmative to Negative & Interrogative & Vice Versa (Assertive, Interrogative, Imperative and Exclamatory sentences)
  • Positive to Comparative or Superlative & Vice Versa
  • Active to Passive and Vice Versa

Remember, the meaning of the conversion of Affirmative, Negative and Interrogative sentence cannot be changed, that is, only the difference of opinion has to be changed. This is called Transformation, and if the meaning changes, it will be Conversion which is not applicable for class eight students.

  • Example: Change the following sentence as indicated in parentheses.

Question No. 12: Narrative Style
The question paper will have a passage of direct speech. Direct speeches need to be changed to indirect/ reported speech. However, the test may have to change from indirect speech to direct speech.

  • Example: Change the form of the sentence and rewrite the passage below.

Question No. 13: Capitalization and Punctuation
The exam will have a passage related to Capitalization & Punctuation in a text. In this case, the words that need to be capitalized and, where the punctuation mark (such as- comma, full stop, inverted comma, etc.) should be placed, the whole passage should be written and answered correctly.

  • Example: Use uppercase letters and punctuation as needed for the following passages.

Part-D : Writing [Total 30 Marks]

 Question No. 14: Dialogue Writing
The exam will have full instructions for writing a dialogue. The whole subject should be presented in at least 7-8 pairs according to the content given in the question. In the dialog, informal English (Colloquial language) contraction (word-summary) nation/ function is very important. In addition, special attention should be paid to minor sentences, question tags and regular interruptions.

Question No. 15: Formal/ Informal E-mail
You will be asked to write a formal/ informal e-mail on this question. It must be written according to the rules. Formal/ Informal E-mail must be informative enough. Learn to write firmal/ informal e-mail on various topics close to life.

Question No. 16: Answering Questions Paragraph
The exam requires you to write a passage by answering a few questions related to a specific subject. Remember that the answers to all the questions in the test must be in the paragraph. In that case, if there are five questions, it is not necessary to answer only five sentences. Rather, in the fluency of narration, the sentences have to be intertwined in such a way that it becomes a general idea of ​​a particular subject.
