Women's Education is Important
Education is everyone's birthright. It leads to a harmonious development of one's mental faculties. So educational facilities should be open to all. In this case, there should be no discrimination between men and women. Actually education should be universal. Some people are against women education. They think women are intellectually inferior to men. Hence they are mainly meant for hearth and home. They should manage household chores. They should fulfill family responsibilities: nurture children and comfort their male partners. On the whole their duties are confined entirely to the inner apartments. The above arguments do not hold water. It is true that their family has some work to do. But even these special tasks cannot be done properly by an uneducated woman. An educated husband cohabits with an uneducated partner. An uneducated wife is not in a position to perform her household duties on sound lines. It is impossible for an illiterate mother to bring up her children properly. We can expect women to acquit themselves well in their special work only when they are properly educated.
Women are equal to men in all respects except physical strength. The question of their intellectual inferiority gives a negative answer. So there should be no difference between men and women in education. Many women are now working successfully with men in many active branches of life. So there can be no reason to deny the benefits of female education. Women also have their social responsibilities. Half of the people of our country are women. No development can happen in our society without the participation of half of the members. And it is not possible to do development work successfully with uneducated women. So we should educate women fast. It may be advisable to reform the outdated education system for our girls. Subjects like home economics, domestic science, cooking, sewing and nursing should be included in their course of study.
This is a good sign that there is a general awakening in women. The UN Charter contains provisions on the elimination of discrimination between women and men. Women in our country are also working alongside men in every aspect of life outside the walls of the house. Our government is making every effort to facilitate women's education in our country. We must remember that education is one of the basic rights of men and women.
